Lead by founder Marc Barnacle, T.I.M.E (Together in Musical Expression) is an Essex based charity making it their goal to bring music to the masses.
Aiming to bring their unifying philosophy of everyone having a unique offering to give to the music world, regardless of their age, background or ability.
T.I.M.E create a space to host multiple music-based workshops and projects, including therapeutic work and sensory based relaxation sessions, song writing, instrumental tuition and confidence development for attendees, in turn helping motor and speech development.
With Marc Barnacle, Mike Barnes, and Rob Fillary at the head, the charity prides itself on its roots across music and community outreach, seeing T.I.M.E utilise music projects to assist in SEN and mainstream education sectors, offer sessions in care homes, and engage with drug and alcohol rehabilitation and mental health awareness and aid.
“We regularly meet individuals who are non-verbal, or struggle to communicate their feelings to friends and family. But once an instrument is placed in front of them, they suddenly acquire a whole range of moods and emotions to share with the world. It’s this ability to communicate and express, which music enables, that excites us, provides that elating feeling, and drives us forward“
Pairing with audio-visual creators Strange Pill, last year the community created a pop-up space that welcomed members of the community to explore songwriting creating their own track to be produced and put online in an interactive exhibition.
The Basildon Audio Visual Machine (Open Labs 2021). This project, commissioned by Basildon Creative People and Places, garnered much deserved attention, then went on to be funded and sponsored by Arts Council England, Eastgate Shopping Centre, Basildon Borough Council, Basildon Town Square and Orwell Real Estate.
Currently T.I.M.E and Strange Pill are crafting an exciting global exhibition in the medium of a permanent online installation, allowing users to experiment and curate with their very own musical loops made by those collaborating with the charity. Inspiring people all across the globe to get involved and find confidence in their potential, accessibility, presentation, user friendliness and creative engagement have all been considered.
T.I.M.E doesn’t stop there, they have worked alongside some super interesting groups including Arts Arts Council England, Irene Taylor Trust, New York Philharmonic, Bhavan Indian Cultural Centre, and Chinese Music Ensemble, with exhibitions taking place across the Barbican Centre, Kinetica Museum, York Art Gallery, Athens Digital Arts Festival. Talks were even given at London City University, CultureTech, and MusicTechFest.
