Scotland’s up and coming band, Auld White Label, have been making waves in the music scene with their latest EP release, Tangents. The four-piece group hailing from Lanarkshire are proving to be a force to be reckoned with, with their genre-fluid sound and thought-provoking lyrics.
Tangents, set to be released on 31/1/25, is a masterful compilation of four tracks that showcase Auld White Label’s unique sound. The lead single, Chapter 1, immediately captures the listener’s attention with its industrial-inspired beat, chopped-up vocals, and pulsating synths. This avant-garde track serves as the perfect introduction to the EP’s central theme of death and rebirth. What sets Auld White Label apart from other bands is their collaborative writing process. Each member of the band contributed their own track, bringing together their individual strengths and creating a sound that is truly one-of-a-kind. From the shoegaze influences in one song to the electronica vibes in another, Tangents takes listeners on a musical journey that transcends traditional genre boundaries. But Auld White Label’s success did not come easy. Reformed on the brink of lockdown, the band pushed through the challenges of the pandemic and released two concept albums to critical acclaim.
They also contributed their song “Quiet the Sea Change” to the charity album Northern Strangers, where all proceeds were donated to the charity Scottish Action for Mental Health. This humanitarian effort from the band only adds to their growing appeal as socially conscious artists. The EP, recorded, mixed and mastered by the renowned Andy Miller (Mogwai, Songs: Ohia, Life Without Buildings) at Garglblast Studios, is a testament to Auld White Label’s determination and talent. With its captivating cover artwork depicting an abstract painted mushroom – a representation of the ever-changing nature of life – Tangents is an all-encompassing experience that is not to be missed.
Auld White Label is definitely a band to watch out for. Their infectious sound, thought-provoking lyrics, and passion for making a positive impact through their music make them stand out in the Scottish music scene. Don’t miss out on their EP release, Tangents, on 31/1/25, available on all platforms.
