With an unprecedented 36 ‘F***s’, this has to be the most expletive heavy song I’ve ever listened to. However, I’ve got to say, it’s rebellious lyrics suit their equally rebellious writer.
Franki Pineapple, born Stephanie Carlisi, is a former screenwriter, novelist and journalist. Now, she’s turned her hand to the music world. Originally dipping her toes into the industry as a lyrical transcriber for famous songwriters with The Eagles‘ JD Souther, she has come on leaps and bounds.
This force of nature is certainly something to behold. After being inspired by her producer Nararaj Tribino to adopt the name Franki Pineapple (spiky on the outside, sweet on the inside), Apple Inc. decided to sue her.
Due to a very tentative likeness in their names, Franki was taken to court. In her own words ‘Apple brought a compromise settlement to the table which I felt deep in my soul would limit me in ways I simply could not sign on for…
… I had done nothing wrong; I had infringed on Apple in no way; all I had done was put my heart and soul into the creation of something cool which represented peaceful rebellion; I knew I could not back down and so I decided to fight’.
To her credit, she prevailed against the conglomerate, showing everyone that big business doesn’t rule our lives.
The outcome of this saga? The new and vibrant single ‘F*** It Man’.
Immediately, Franki sets a precedence with the titular lyrics ‘F*** It Man’ ringing out for everyone to hear. With a clear sign that she’s taking no prisoners on this one, the heavy electro beat rages on, injecting a high-octane feel to the track.
In this moment, it feels as though The Prodigy and Madonna have combined to make the most unlikely of super groups. The signature punk vibe of the 90’s work alongside the soft female voice of the iconic solo artist. If that doesn’t intrigue you I’m not sure what will!
After establishing the vibe of the song, Franki introduces a strong, edgy rock guitar to lead us into the chorus. As some of you may have guessed, it contains a solid amount of ‘f***s’.
However, I have to say, by cleverly repeating the lyric, she creates a great amount of intensity, giving the single yet another level of high energy. Even with this track being absolutely mental, it provides a brilliant message. It screams support at everyone facing adversity in their lives.
The content of the track is incredibly empowering to those who feel they’re being belittled or hard done to in their life. Regardless of how many expletives there are, the reason behind the track makes it a great single.
My favourite bit has to be the guitar solo though. It really harks back to the 80’s rock style when guitars ruled the stage. Pushing its way to the forefront, the solo finishes ‘F*** It Man’ perfectly, signifying this as an energetically mental track.
