Since their formation in 2016, the Nottingham band LNC have kept the meaning of their name a “closely guarded secret”, but their music is far from it. Bread out of a common love for song writing and drive to pursue a career music, LNC began releasing music in 2016 and carving out a name for themselves in indie rock. Their sound was one very much inspired by acts like the Arctic Monkeys (with lead singer Josh Price giving constant nods to Turners vocal inflection and regional flare), but with more of a focus on darker, guitar-driven post punk.
Whilst the entertainment industry was held hostage by the pandemic in 2020, LNC hit a streak of productivity that would prove crucial to perfecting their sound, and getting it heard by the nation. They released “0115”, a collage of gorgeous guitar riffs and simple but infectious drums. The song was then picked up by BBC Sport who had it as backing music for some of their events, increasing the bands reach and credibility exponentially.
Today the band are back with their exhilarating new single “SHAME”.
Instantly the distortion and tone of the electric guitar sets a backdrop of angst and nastiness in the best possible way. The production of this new single is busy but doesn’t shy away from some of the dirt, something that sets them away from many of the peers and aligns them with many of their punk rock heroes of the golden era. Price’s vocals manage to also ride this fine line of tuneful bliss but still with a slight snarl to add to the late night grunge of the track.
The song lyrically deals with the struggles and pressures of being young, combating it with the rock and roll that they declare is “in my soul” in the ear-worm chorus of “SHAME”. LNC are far from household names as it stands, but fans of Arctic Monkeys, Oasis and The Black Keys will see that LNC are the next generation picking up the torch, alongside grungy guitars, huge drums and soaring vocals dealing with everyday life.
