Doolin’s ‘Circus Boy’ offers not only a vast range of musical influences, but also thought-provoking lyrics brimming with meaning and emotion.
At the album’s core is an exploration of the emotions experienced by the band when on the road throughout their US tours. The album’s namesake track, Circus Boy, is a homage to friendship and the solidarity of the French band whilst on the road, detailing their personal and artistic encounters, collectively experienced whilst discovering new places far from home.
Alongside their new experiences, Doolin are firmly rooted to their hometown, as demonstrated through ‘When I’m Gone’ and ‘A Place Where We Belong’. Despite writing an album whilst far from home, the band pays huge acknowledgment to their hometown of Toulouse, France. This offers a brilliant contrast between the old and the new, ultimately reflecting a declaration of love for their home.
